Kyle Higashioka Taking seat Friday
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 2:54 PM
Higashioka is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Higashioka is out of the lineup for the second time in three games, yielding to Jonah Heim behind the dish for Friday's series opener. In his last 11 games, Higashioka is 10-for-40 with two home runs and three doubles.
Adolis Garcia
Adolis Garcia Possible return this weekend
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 7:43 AM
Garcia (quadriceps) could be activated for this weekend's series in New York against the Mets, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Garcia took live batting practice Tuesday, and Texas manager Bruce Bochy said the outfielder is doing much better than expected. Following the session, Bochy entertained the possibility of Garcia being activated Friday. His estimated return date has been fluid, bouncing from this weekend to possibly next Monday and now back to this weekend.
Phil Maton
Phil Maton Notches fourth save
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 6:56 PM
Maton earned the save in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Brewers, striking out one without allowing a run over two-thirds of an inning.
Analysis: After Shawn Armstrong walked Issac Collins with one out in the ninth, Maton was brought in to face the top of Milwaukee's batting order. The right-hander would strike out Brice Turnag before Jackson Chourio lined out, sealing the three-run Texas victory. It's the fourth save of the year for Maton and his first since August 5 -- he had blown his last three save chances while posting a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings prior to Wednesday, thus ceding the closing job to Armstrong. Overall, Maton's ERA sits at 2.95 this season with a 1.09 WHIP and 73 strikeouts across 55 innings between the Rangers and Cardinals.
Merrill Kelly
Merrill Kelly Settles in for 12th win
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 6:47 PM
Kelly (12-7) earned the win Wednesday over the Brewers, allowing three runs on 10 hits across 5.2 innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Kelly's day got off to an inauspicious start, as he gave up back-to-back homers to Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio to lead off the game. However, the right-hander would right the ship and keep the Brewers from scoring again until the sixth inning en route to a 6-3 Texas victory. The 36-year-old Kelly has been sharp of late, posting a 2.61 ERA over his last six outings (38 innings). He'll look to keep it going his next time out, tentatively scheduled for next week on the road against the Astros.
Jake Burger
Jake Burger Homers twice in win
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 6:39 PM
Burger went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three total RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 victory over the Brewers.
Analysis: Burger got Texas on the board in the second inning with a 432-foot blast off Freddy Peralta before extending the lead to 5-2 in the fifth with his second homer of the day, a two-run shot over the centerfield wall. The 29-year-old Burger has gone 12-for-35 (.343) with our homers and 11 RBI in his last 10 games. Overall, he's slashing .246/.280/.449 with 16 home runs and 49 RBI across 339 plate appearances this season.
Sam Haggerty
Sam Haggerty Starting rehab assignment Friday
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 11:24 AM
Haggerty (ankle) ran the bases at Globe Life Field on Wednesday and is slated to begin a rehab assignment Friday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Haggerty has been shelved since mid-August with left ankle inflammation but is almost ready to test things out in game action. The emergence of Michael Helman could throw a wrench into Haggerty's playing time, but Haggerty is hitting .318/.376/.435 versus lefties and offers positional versatility, so he should still find his way into the lineup against southpaws once he's ready to return.
Ezequiel Duran
Ezequiel Duran Idle for second straight game
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 11:22 AM
Duran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: After a stretch of five consecutive starts at four different positions, Duran will take a seat for the second day in a row, with both of his absences coming while the Brewers have sent right-handers to the mound. Duran looks like he'll mainly be limited to a short-side platoon role in the Texas infield while the Rangers turn to Josh Smith and Cody Freeman as their preferred double-play tandem against right-handed pitching.
Jonah Heim
Jonah Heim Resting up Wednesday
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 11:19 AM
Heim is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Analysis: Heim will rest after he had been included in the lineup in each of the last four games, making three starts at catcher and one as a designated hitter during that stretch. Though the Rangers will likely continue to make regular room for both Heim and Kyle Higashioka in the lineup when the team faces left-handed starters, Higashioka will likely rank as the preferred option behind the plate against right-handed pitching.
Tyler Mahle
Tyler Mahle Making another rehab start
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:28 AM
Mahle (shoulder) will make another rehab start Friday, Abby Jones of DLLS Sports reports.
Analysis: The Rangers had mulled the possibility of activating Mahle from the 60-day injured list this weekend to make an appearance against the Mets, but they've ultimately decided to give him another rehab outing to continue getting stretched out. Mahle struck out three over 2.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, throwing 47 pitches. He's been out since mid-June with a right shoulder strain.
Shawn Armstrong
Shawn Armstrong Hangs on for save
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:03 AM
Armstrong picked up the save Tuesday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on two hits and no walks across one inning. He didn't record a strikeout.
Analysis: Armstrong inherited a two-run lead but surrendered a solo home run to Jake Bauers. He stranded the game-tying run at first base, getting Christian Yelich to line out with Jackson Chourio on base to end the contest. Armstrong has allowed a run in two of his last five appearances, a streak that followed 11.2 consecutive scoreless innings. He's up to eight saves on the year.
Michael Helman
Michael Helman Goes yard again
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:50 AM
Helman went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Analysis: Helman launched a grand slam in Monday's series opener and followed it up with another homer Tuesday night. His fifth-inning homer off Chad Patrick tied the contest. In the six games leading up to his pair of homers, Helman went 2-for-18 (.111). He has five long balls this season.
Jack Leiter
Jack Leiter Labors against MIL
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:44 AM
Leiter didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts across 4.2 innings.
Analysis: Leiter's seven hits allowed were his most in 12 starts, and his four Ks were his second fewest during that stretch. Tuesday's outing snapped a streak of three consecutive quality starts. The 25-year-old has a 3.81 ERA and 130:64 K:BB across 132.1 innings this season. He's on track to face the Astros his next time out.
Cal Quantrill
Cal Quantrill Catches on with Rangers
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 11:27 PM
Quantrill signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Quantrill was cut loose by Atlanta after giving up 12 earned runs in just eight innings during his two starts with the team, and he'll now find work in the Rangers' farm system for the final portion of the regular season. The 30-year-old righty could make a spot start for the Rangers over the next few weeks, but he won't be able to pitch if Texas secures a spot in the postseason.
Donovan Solano
Donovan Solano Lands with Texas
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 11:24 PM
Solano signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Solano lost his spot on the Mariners on Sept. 1 after slashing .252/.295/.344 with 21 RBI and 10 runs scored across 176 plate appearances. The 37-year-old won't be eligible to contribute in the postseason if the Rangers secure a wild-card spot, but he'll provide the team with a bit of organizational depth for the final push.
Kyle Higashioka
Kyle Higashioka Out of Tuesday's lineup
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 3:05 PM
Higashioka is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Brewers.
Analysis: Higashioka had started the last two contests, which includes a start at designated hitter in Monday's series opener. However, Jonah Heim will draw his second straight start at catcher Tuesday.
Danny Coulombe
Danny Coulombe Rehab assignment coming
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 7:36 AM
Coulombe (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Friday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Coulombe last pitched Aug. 26 against the Angels, when he allowed a pair of home runs. He'll join Frisco for its final three games of the regular season. That gives the left-handed reliever ample opportunity to prepare for a potential activation Sept. 16, the earliest date on which he could return.
Adolis Garcia
Adolis Garcia Return date targeted
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 7:23 AM
Garcia (quadriceps) could be activated in time for the three-game series in Houston that begins Sept. 15, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Rangers are buoyed by the progress Garcia's made since he was placed on the 10-day injured list. A return Sept. 15 (next Monday) contradicts an earlier report that suggested a possible return Friday, the earliest point at which he could be activated.
Michael Helman
Michael Helman Drives in career-high five
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 11:09 PM
Helman went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI in Monday's 5-0 win over Milwaukee.
Analysis: Helman launched his first career grand slam en route to tallying a career-high five RBI. The center fielder is making a strong impression at the plate so far, and he should continue to play regularly down the stretch for the banged-up Rangers. Through 55 trips to the plate, Helman is slashing .245/.315/.571 with seven extra-base hits, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases.
Jacob Latz
Jacob Latz Quiets Brewers over 5.2 innings
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 9:48 PM
Latz (2-0) notched the win Monday against the Brewers, allowing three hits and one walk in 5.2 shutout innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: It was was perhaps Latz's finest effort as a starter so far this season, as it was his first scoreless start of the year. The left-hander has gone at least five innings in four of his six starts in 2025, and he's in line to remain in the rotation with Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) likely sidelined for the remainder of the regular season. Latz has a 2.91 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 66:32 K:BB across a career-high 74.1 frames. He's next slated for a tall task on the road against the Mets this weekend.
Tyler Mahle
Tyler Mahle Could be activated this weekend
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 5:18 PM
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that Mahle (shoulder) could return from the 60-day injured list this weekend to make a start against the Mets, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Out since mid-June with a right shoulder strain, Mahle was roughed up in his first rehab outing but was better his last time out, striking out three over 2.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. He is not fully stretched out after throwing just 47 pitches Sunday, but the Rangers may consider using him in tandem with Jacob Latz, who recently moved from the bullpen to the rotation. Mahle managed a 2.34 ERA over 14 starts covering 77 innings before getting hurt, but a pedestrian 56:27 K:BB suggested that he benefited from some batted-ball luck.
