The Rangers re-signed Sborz (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Analysis: After being non-tendered by the Rangers in November, Sborz is now back in the fold on a minor-league deal. The 32-year-old missed much of the 2025 season while recuperating from shoulder surgery and was eventually shut down in September due to poor velocity and results during his rehab assignment. It's unclear whether Sborz will have any restrictions at the beginning of spring training.

The Rangers will be the right-hander's fifth team in the last four seasons, and he'll provide his new squad with another experienced option in the bullpen ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Fri, Jan 9, 2026, 2:19 PM
The Rangers claimed Kent off waivers from the Cardinals on Friday.
Analysis: Kent came up in the minors with the Rangers before being traded to the Guardians in March 2024. He posted a 4.58 ERA and 16:8 K:BB over 17.2 innings with Cleveland in 2025 before St. Louis claimed off waivers in December and then designated him for assignment earlier this week. Kent will compete for a spot in the Texas bullpen.
Patrick Murphy
Patrick Murphy Back with Rangers as NRI
Fri, Jan 9, 2026, 8:17 AM
The Rangers signed Murphy to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Analysis: Murphy began the 2025 season in the minors with the Rangers before finishing the year in Korea with the KT Wiz. The 30-year-old reliever holds a career 4.76 ERA and 38:20 K:BB over 39.2 innings at the major-league level and has not pitched in MLB since 2022 with the Nationals.

Duran agreed to a one-year contract with the Rangers on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Duran played in 90 games for the Rangers last season and had a career-worst .559 OPS, as he went without a home run in 219 plate appearances. The 26-year-old now officially has a contract for 2026 but likely won't have much roster security given that he has a .237/.278/.309 slash line across the past two seasons.
Josh Smith
Josh Smith Signs deal for 2026
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 5:35 PM
Smith agreed to a one-year, $3.225 million contract with the Rangers on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Smith will end up earning a little more than the $2.5 million that was projected for his first year of arbitration eligibility, per Spotrac.com. He's primarily worked as a super-utility player for the Rangers but could be more locked in at second base in 2026 following the offseason departure of Marcus Semien.
Josh Jung

Jung agreed to a one-year contract with the Rangers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed, but Jung was estimated to make about $2.4 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility, according to Spotrac.com. The first baseman had an underwhelming first season with the Rangers in 2025, clubbing just 16 home runs with a .688 OPS in 103 games after totaling 63 long balls over the previous two campaigns. Burger underwent wrist surgery in early September but should be ready for the start of spring training.

Additionally, he appeared in eight contests, including five starts, the Diamondbacks, allowing 14 earned runs on 40 hits and nine walks while striking out 25 batters over 34 innings. Martin (undisclosed) signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Martin was a key part of the Rangers' bullpen this past season, as he finished the year with a 2.98 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 42.1 innings while adding two saves and 13 holds. Now committed to another year in Arlington, the 39-year-old righty will likely continue to work in a setup role ahead of closer Robert Garcia.

Analysis: Velazquez spent all of this past season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization, slashing .242/.304/.345 with five homers and 25 steals. A career .189/.244/.293 hitter over parts of six big-league seasons, Velazquez will give the Rangers some experienced infield depth at Triple-A Round Rock.
Jose Herrera
Jose Herrera Takes NRI deal from Rangers
Mon, Dec 15, 2025, 4:01 PM
The Rangers signed Herrera to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Analysis: Herrera saw action at the big-league level with the Diamondbacks each of the past four seasons, slashing just .200/.280/.259 over 562 plate appearances. The Rangers are set at catcher after signing Danny Jansen to pair with Kyle Higashioka, leaving Herrera to provide experienced depth at Triple-A Round Rock.
Tyler Alexander

Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 8:53 PM
Alexander signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Alexander began the 2025 season with Milwaukee but was let go by the club in early June after accumulating a 6.19 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 36.1 innings. He became more successful after signing with the White Sox, posting a 4.26 ERA and 1.35 WHIP alongside a 52:18 K:BB over 61.1 frames with Chicago. He'll now provide the Rangers with another bullpen arm capable of handling multiple innings at a time and could also be used for an occasional spot start.
Alexis Diaz
Alexis Diaz Signs one-year deal with Texas
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 8:46 PM
Diaz signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Diaz took a massive step in the wrong direction this past season, going from recording 28 saves with the Reds in 2024 to finishing the 2025 campaign with an 8.15 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 17.2 innings in the big leagues. He'll get another chance to turn things around with the Rangers, though he'll likely need to display some consistency before the team considers using him in high-leverage situations regularly.
Danny Jansen
Danny Jansen Signs with Rangers
Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 8:34 PM
Jansen signed a two-year, $14.5 million contract with the Rangers on Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Following a poor 2024 campaign, Jansen looked more like his usual self in '25, slashing .215/.321/.399 with 14 homers, 36 RBI and 38 runs scored across 337 regular-season plate appearances between Tampa Bay and Milwaukee. His return to form was enough to draw a multi-year commitment from Texas, where the 30-year-old will now compete with Kyle Higashioka for starting reps behind the plate.

The Rangers signed Wade to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Wade hit just .206/.309/.252 over 59 games with the Padres in 2025, which is right in line with his career .216/.294/.284 batting line at the major-league level. The 31-year-old is capable of playing every position other than catcher and first base, and he's in line to provide utility depth at Triple-A Round Rock.
Wyatt Langford
Wyatt Langford Option to play center field
Mon, Dec 8, 2025, 2:32 PM
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Monday that the team is open to the possibility of using Langford as its center fielder next season, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Langford made 97 starts in left field and 36 starts in center field for the Rangers during the 2025 season and was graded with a plus-5 in Outs Above Average at both spots, per Baseball Savant. As things stand right now, the Rangers would likely use Langford in left field and Evan Carter (wrist) in center field next season against right-handed pitching. However, it's possible Langford will shift to center if the club is able to acquire corner outfield help or if Carter is injured. The right-handed-hitting Langford is also an option to play center field versus lefties when the left-handed-hitting Carter sits.
Jonah Bride

Tue, Nov 25, 2025, 6:32 PM
Bride signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Bride finished 2025 with a mere .435 OPS over 125 plate appearances between Miami and Minnesota. He slashed .281/.423/.453 over 43 games in Triple-A, however, which was enough to earn him a shot with the Rangers this spring. He'll most likely report to Triple-A Round Rock at the start of the upcoming season.
