Luis Curvelo
Luis Curvelo On way to big leagues
Fri, Jun 6, 2025, 8:08 AM
The Rangers will recall Curvelo from Triple-A Round Rock prior to Friday's game against the Nationals, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Analysis: Curvelo has put up a 1.64 ERA and 25:7 K:BB over 22 innings with Round Rock this season and will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game. It's not clear what the corresponding roster move will be.
Josh Smith
Josh Smith Logs steal in loss
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:20 PM
Smith went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: Smith was caught stealing on his first attempt of the game, but he found success on his second try. The utility player has upper his speed productivity lately, swiping three bags while going 8-for-28 (.286) over his last seven games. He's at a .266/.333/.397 slash line with five home runs, 16 RBI, 22 runs scored and eight steals on 11 attempts through 54 contests this season. Smith continues to find a place in the lineup without having a set position -- he's seen time at first base, third base, shortstop and designated hitter in the last week alone.
Jake Burger
Jake Burger Smacks homer in loss
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:17 PM
Burger went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: Burger has gone 7-for-23 (.304) with three RBI over his last six games. The homer was his first since May 25 versus the White Sox. The infielder is up to eight homers, 24 RBI, 22 runs scored, 10 doubles, one stolen base and a .220/.250/.407 slash line over 52 games this season. Burger continues to offer some power, but it has come with mediocre plate discipline and a low batting average this year.
Marcus Semien
Marcus Semien Two homers in loss
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:14 PM
Semien went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: Semien went deep in the fifth and seventh innings to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead. It unraveled in the ninth, but Semien continued a productive stretch that has seen him homer three times over the last six games for half of his output on the year. The second baseman is at a .210/.298/.308 slash line, six homers, 23 RBI, 21 runs scored and five stolen bases over 62 contests. Considering he has just nine extra-base hits on the year after posting 52 of them in 2024, he is due for a bit more power.
Robert Garcia
Robert Garcia Blows save versus Rays
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:11 PM
Garcia (1-3) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss and a blown save in Thursday's 4-3 defeat versus the Rays.
Analysis: Garcia may have been rusty, as he had not pitched since May 28 versus the Blue Jays. This was his first blown save since appearing to take over the closer role in late May, but he has allowed six runs over his his last 5.1 innings. The 28-year-old is at a 3.28 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB while adding three saves, 10 holds and two blown saves over 24.2 innings this season. The Rangers' bullpen situation continues to be somewhat fluid, so Garcia is unlikely to suddenly lose all of his high-leverage work, but he'll need to improve to be a long-term option in the ninth inning.
Jack Leiter
Jack Leiter Surrenders one run Thursday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:07 PM
Leiter allowed a run on three hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision Thursday versus the Rays.
Analysis: Leiter has allowed three or fewer his in five of his last six outings, a stretch in which he's gone at least five innings in each start. Thursday's effort was the first time in that span that he's issued just one walk, and the solo shot he allowed to Junior Caminero was the lone run on his line. Limiting baserunners is always good to see, and that's helped Leiter find decent success lately, though he's earned just two wins over his last five starts. On the year, he has a 3.48 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 42:24 K:BB through 51.2 innings over 10 starts, but he's trending in the right direction. The right-hander's next start is projected to be at Minnesota next week.
Kumar Rocker
Kumar Rocker Optioned to Round Rock
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 5:05 PM
The Rangers optioned Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.
Analysis: Rocker was shelled for five runs in just 3.1 innings during his start Wednesday against the Rays. Poor outings have become a common theme for the 25-year-old righty this season, who now owns an 8.87 ERA and 1.84 WHIP through six MLB starts. He'll attempt to find his footing in the minor leagues; meanwhile, Chris Martin (shoulder) will return from the injured list to fill the opening in Texas' pitching staff.
Chris Martin
Chris Martin Returning from IL
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 5:02 PM
The Rangers activated Martin (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Analysis: Martin avoided a rehab assignment while dealing with right shoulder fatigue and seemed to be in a holding pattern after throwing a bullpen Tuesday. With the right-hander rejoining the Rangers' bullpen, Kumar Rocker was designated for assignment Thursday.
Cole Winn
Cole Winn Continues scoreless run
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 7:56 AM
Winn walked one and struck out one over a scoreless eighth inning in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: Winn has been effective out of the Rangers' bullpen, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six over seven scoreless innings. That extended a scoreless run that started at Triple-A Round Rock, where he hadn't been scored upon in 23.1 relief innings. Walks can still be an issue for Winn, but the former starter may have found a bullpen niche for himself.
Chris Martin
Chris Martin Throws bullpen
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 7:47 AM
Martin (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The report indicates the Rangers are in a "holding pattern" with Martin, who is expected to throw another bullpen before the recently turned 39-year-old right-hander is reassessed. Martin landed on the 15-day injured list with shoulder fatigue, and the hope was that he could avoid a rehab assignment.
Wyatt Langford
Wyatt Langford Working through slump
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 10:45 PM
Langford went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 defeat to the Rays.
Analysis: It was the fourth three-hit effort of the campaign by Langford, who registered his first multi-hit game since May 17. The speedy outfielder has been mired in a bit of a slump at the dish, batting .226 (14-for-62) with three homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored over his last 16 games. Langford has stolen four bases during this cold spell, so he's finding other ways to contribute while he works through his hitting struggles.
Kumar Rocker
Kumar Rocker Hit hard in return Wednesday
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 9:32 PM
Rocker (1-4) was saddled with the loss Wednesday against the Rays after giving up five runs on six hits and two walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out five.
Analysis: The hard-throwing right-hander's velocity was encouraging in his first start since April 23, as Rocker whiffed 16 and was able to touch 99 mph twice with his sinker, but his return from a right shoulder impingement was still a rocky one overall. Three of his six hits allowed went for extra bases, and Rocker notably failed to cover first base on a groundball that allowed two runs to score with two outs in the third inning. He'll bring a ghastly 8.87 ERA and 1.84 WHIP with 21 strikeouts across 23.1 innings into his next scheduled outing against the Twins, currently projected for early next week.
Kyle Higashioka
Kyle Higashioka Hitting bench Wednesday
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 3:57 PM
Higashioka is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Though he's on the bench Wednesday, Higashioka seems to have at least moved into a timeshare with Jonah Heim behind the dish. Over the last six games, Higashioka started five times (four at catcher, one at designated hitter), while Heim was included in the lineup three times during that stretch. Heim (.659 OPS) has still been more productive at the plate than Higashioka (.599 OPS), so the latter will likely need to string together some more quality offensive performances before emerging as the clear No. 1 option.
Alejandro Osuna
Alejandro Osuna Hitting bench Wednesday
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 3:52 PM
Osuna is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: He will head to the bench for just the second time in nine games since being called up from Triple-A Round Rock on May 25. The 22-year-old has gotten on base at a .435 clip, but his fantasy appeal has been muted thus far after getting thrown out on both of his steal attempts. The slumping Adolis Garcia is back in the lineup Wednesday after taking a seat in each of the last four games to receive a mental reset, but if the veteran is unable to turn a corner at the plate, the Rangers could reopen a regular role in the outfield for Osuna.
Adolis Garcia
Adolis Garcia Returns to lineup
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 3:27 PM
Garcia will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Garcia was held out of the lineup for each of the previous four contests as he battled through a slump, but he entered Tuesday's 5-1 loss as a pinch hitter and is back in the lineup Wednesday. The 32-year-old is slashing only .211/.258/.372 for Texas this season and could be at risk of losing out on playing time in the outfield to rookie Alejandro Osuna if he's unable to turn things around.
Tucker Barnhart
Tucker Barnhart Back with Rangers on MiLB pact
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 3:09 PM
The Rangers re-signed Barnhart to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
Analysis: Barnhart elected free agency earlier this week after being removed from the Rangers' 40-man roster, but he's back in the organization on a restructured deal. The 34-year-old will provide catching depth.
Codi Heuer
Codi Heuer Returns to Triple-A
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 3:04 PM
The Rangers optioned Heuer to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.
Analysis: Heuer is being sent down to clear a spot on the active roster for Kumar Rocker (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Rays. The reliever allowed one run over 1.1 innings in his lone appearance with the big club.
Kumar Rocker
Kumar Rocker Activated ahead of start
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 3:03 PM
The Rangers activated Rocker (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis: Rocker is slated to rejoin the rotation Wednesday with a start against the Rays after being sidelined since late April with a right shoulder impingement. He threw only 53 pitches and four innings in his final rehab outing, so Rocker is likely to have a limited workload versus Tampa Bay.
Marcus Semien
Marcus Semien Moves up order
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 7:59 AM
Semien batted sixth and went 0-for-2 with a walk in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Semien spent nine games batting eighth or ninth, before he was moved up a few spots Tuesday. He earned the better slot by slashing .346/.419/.500 with four walks, a home run, four RBI, three steals and nine runs scored while banished to the lowest spots in the order.
Adolis Garcia
Adolis Garcia Enters as pinch hitter
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 7:52 AM
Garcia entered Tuesday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-2 with a run scored in a 5-1 loss to the Rays.
Analysis: Garcia was held out of the starting lineup for a fourth straight game but pinch hit for Alejandro Osuna and finished the game in right field. Texas manager Bruce Bochy said he was giving the slumping Garcia a mental break, which may have ended with Tuesday's appearance.
